Fresh Balayage & Soft Face Frame for a Busy Mum | Low-Maintenance Hair Colour Melbourne
My guest is a vibrant woman in her 40s – a proud mum of four, balancing family life and work in Melbourne. She came to me needing a fresh, playful look for an upcoming dance party — something effortless, natural, and low-maintenance, so she wouldn’t need to visit the salon often.

💇♀️ Hair Profile
Hair Type: 2B – natural waves with bounce and volume
Strand Thickness: Level 7 – medium to thick strands
Density: 75% – full, especially around the crown
Current Colour: 5 months of regrowth, 20% grey (mainly crown + hairline), uneven box dye history
Colour History: Overlapping layers of home box dye

💖Consultation
During our chat, she told me:
👉 "I want something fresh for the party but don’t want to spend hours styling or come back to the salon every few weeks."
Her main concerns were:
⚠️Patchy grey regrowth, mostly at the crown and front
⚠️Wavy, thick hair that can make her narrow face look slimmer
⚠️Old box dye layers, which could affect how the colour lifts
So I gave her two tailored options, based on her lifestyle, face shape, and hair history:

Technique & Options
✨ Option 1: Shoulder-Length + Beige Highlights
Cutting to the shoulders removed more of the uneven, dye-heavy ends and reduced grey regrowth at the tips. This helped us:
• Achieve a lighter lift (around level 8.5)
• Blend the grey softer and more evenly
• Create a fresh, sun-kissed beige tone
This option is perfect for those who want a cleaner colour blend, less warmth, and just 1–3 mins of styling daily.
----------------------------------------------------------------
✨ Option 2: Keep Length + Golden Highlights
If she preferred to keep her length, we’d need to work around the box dye. The challenge here is:
• Old dye can lift unevenly and push warmth or orange tones
• Highlights won’t get as light as Option 1 in one go
• Resulting blend would be slightly warmer and darker
It’s still a beautiful look, just a longer journey to the goal. It needs 5–8 mins of daily styling to maintain softness and flow.

What We Did
She chose Option 1. I gave her a soft, shoulder-length haircut to frame her face and added cool beige balayage highlights on a neutral brown base. We focused on blending greys while being mindful of past colour build-up.
The colour technique was designed for natural regrowth, so she can enjoy this look for 4–5 months without harsh lines or brassiness.

The Result
✅ Fresh, playful, and effortless – just what she needed
✅ Lighter highlights for soft grey blending
✅ No harsh grow-out lines
✅ Easy to style for both everyday and party vibes
Next time, we’ll refresh with a half-head balayage and base touch-up to keep it long-lasting and seamless.

Alexa's Dream Look Journey – From Over-Bleached to Effortless Soft Ombré Shine
About: #AsianHairTransformation #MediumDensityHair #SombreBalayage #SoftOmbréLook #LooseWaveHair #BalayageForAsianHair #LowMaintenanceHairColour
Alexa came in with over-bleached, fragile hair from a previous salon. In our first consultation, we took extra time to understand her dream look—something soft, elegant, and easy to grow out. I explained upfront that it would take 2–3 sessions to get there safely, without damaging her hair further. But I promised that each stage would still look amazing—and that’s exactly what we achieved.
Across three sessions, we created a soft sombre blend (base colour + balayage) with a layered cut that enhanced her natural loose waves. Now, months later, her hair has grown out beautifully—showing off that seamless blend and healthy shine.
What makes Alexa’s transformation special isn’t just the final result—it’s the trust we built along the way. She came in unsure, and left each time feeling more confident and seen.
